Greetings!
What a great start to a new year! As many of you know, Aviva has built its reputation and business on sourcing and selling the highest quality yerba mate from South America. We were one of the first U.S. companies to pioneer the concept of removing sticks, stems and fine powders from the yerba mate during processing. I remember when I first traveled to Paraguay in 2002... Our partner at that time was taken aback when I told him our specifications were to remove as much sticks, stems and fine powder as possible. He asked, "What shall I do with all the sticks and stems?" I said sell it to yerba mate companies here in Paraguay. So he did, and they used what he sold them to blend with traditional yerba mate that is consumed in Paraguay.
As we've mentioned in previous newsletters, our partner in Paraguay passed away and the ranch become unreliable as a supplier. As a result, we began the search for another operation who could produce yerba mate to our standards. I am so happy to announce that we just received our first shipment from Paraguay. This certified organic Paraguayan yerba mate is 99% leaf with minimal sticks, stems and powder. Additionally, it is a slightly larger leaf cut (less chance of drawing up particles through the bombilla). The first cupping is exactly like the original samples that were sent to us last year— Clean and smooth with a green finish and the grassy yerba mate flavor we all love. Our new supplier is a company that has been growing yerba mate sustainably and organically in a wild harvest fashion for many years. Most importantly, they are a professional organization who treats their workers fairly and pays them more than the average wage for Paraguay.
I would like to thank our partner company in Paraguay, Jerovia Yerba Mate— Specifically Deisy and Ricardo. We appreciate all of the hard work that went into this project, and look forward to a long and lasting relationship. Great changes for the better happening here at Aviva for 2011. Along with our new product, we just received a large shipment of gourds and bombillas. Five different gourds and four different bombillas. Last year we started offering an organic yerba mate from Argentina and also introduced our bombilla cut yerba mate for traditional drinking out of a gourd. We will continue offering this Argentine organic even though our signature product will be the Paraguayan Wild Harvest yerba mate. With that said, from here on out, all of our blends and our matelatte mixes will be made from the Paraguayan yerba. Also, you'll notice a slight price drop on the Argentine. We were able to realize some savings with this last shipment. Instead of pocketing the difference as profit, we decided to pass on this savings to you in the form of lower retail pricing. Please keep this in mind in case we need to tweak the pricing in the other direction down the road ;-) Thank you for your continued support and business. We look forward to servicing your yerba mate needs for years to come!
Aviva + Stevia + Peppermint = Hmmmmm...Good!
Take care and we'll see you in a couple weeks. For a list of all our products, our storefront is a great place to start! As always, free shipping on domestic orders over
