Argentine Organic Update - It's on the Way!

Greetings,

I have good news and bad news. First, the good news... there is a shipment of Argentine Organic on its way from South America as I type this. Now, the bad news... it won't be here until mid-July (which I guess is actually only a few weeks away), and there won't be much. And I should mention that it's costing a little more to get it up here into the country. So, we unfortunately need to bump the price up to $7.50 per pound. Sorry folks.

I don't know how many of you follow the news in Argentina, but they've had some turmoil going on down there since the first of the year. Farmers have been striking in response to the government's new tariff on certain agricultural exports. As a result, we've had a difficult time getting product out of the country (both yerba mate and gourds).

Since we first introduced this Argentine Organic product, we've built quite a loyal following of enthusiasts (I don't know how many folks have emailed or called over the past few weeks asking when we'll have more!) Since it doesn't appear that we're intially going to have enough to satisfy both our current drinkers and new customers, we're going to have a pre-sale on the 1lb bags and give you a chance to reserve your mate before we activate it publically on the website or offer it to wholesale customers.

Instructions:
Simply follow the link below to access our reservation form. We're going to cap the single order at 5lbs. Once the product arrives, we'll go down the list in chronological order of when we received the reservation, and contact you with a unique order page where you can place your order. A reasonable amount of time will be given to you before we notify the next group.

Did any of you catch yerba mate on the NBC Today Show a few months ago? This video has been an extremely popular link on our website and newsletter. Yerba mate was highlighted as one of five life-changing foods! Check out the video here:

If you haven't already done so, I invite you to download our Yerba Mate FAQ. This pdf is a compilation of published research on yerba mate. (It has been downloaded over 15,000 times!)

The Tea Totaler: Yerba Mate by Jeffrey Hake
abstract from article:

This time the Tea-Totaler has taken a keen eye to yerba mate, the oft-misunderstood energy tea from South America.

My first experience with mate (pronounced "ma-tay," from Spanish) was in the summer of 2005. I was working on a farm on Nantucket Island that employed workers from all over the world. Two of these workers were Lucas and Eugenia from Argentina. My first time visiting their on-farm apartment, I walked into their living room to find Lucas pouring a bag of green leaves into a bizarre vessel. He said to me, "Jeffrey, would you like mate?" Being the fresh-faced young college student was, I had no idea if he was offering me some kind of drug or tricking me into some kind of "farm initiation." Seeing that I looked flustered, he said calmly, "It is tea. It's okay. Please, have some mate. It is good, from Argentina." He poured water on the leaves and handed me the vessel, a polished cow hoof with hair attached above the toes. It had been hollowed out and the inside was filled nearly to the top with small leaves, which had been flooded with hot water.

In this concoction was another foreign device: a thick metal straw - "una bomba" as it's called - that ended in a flattened bladder with perforations. The idea was that one sucked on the top of the straw, and water would flow through the holes without drawing up any of the leaves. Read More...

Take care and we'll see you in a couple weeks. Don't forget you can Save on Summer Fruit Ambrosia Tea Bags in June. For all other products, our storefront is a great place to start! As always, free shipping on domestic orders over $50!!

Sincerely,

Dan Garcia
